Juquehy is located on the eastern edge of the ecological reserve, “Mata Atlantica”. It is nestled between the mountains of the Serra do Mar (Sierra of the Sea) State Park and the Atlantic Ocean. Juquehy is a mere 150km (90 miles) from São Paulo and is conveniently located 35km (21miles) from the resort town of Bertioga, 50km (30 miles) from the port city of Santos and 30km (19 miles) from the scenic city of São Sebastião.
Juquehy’s beach is 3km (2 miles) of exquisitely fine white sand from which it derives its name. In the native Tupiguarani language, Juquehy, is translated as “The Singing Sand” due to the fact that the sand squeaks under your feet and you stroll along.
The beach fades away gradually under the waves and is considered safe for children because there is rarely any undertow. The warm ocean water is clean and crystalline. It is an ideal location for running, surfing, snorkeling, jet skiing and other aquatic sports or activities. Not far offshore lie a number of islands with secluded beaches and coves which can be accessed by charter boats. These tranquil locations offer the opportunity to relax with absolute privacy and relative exclusivity.
The nearby mountains have trails to numerous waterfalls and rivers. These ecologically rich areas can be explored by hikers, bikers or with 4x4 off-road vehicles. The neighbouring beach town of Barra do Una has an ample marina where boats, of up to 30ft, can be chartered for scenic excursions or off shore fishing.
The town of Juquehy has approximately 500 year-round inhabitants. It has a well established tourist infrastructure adapted to the needs of the fluctuating seasonal population. Here you can find excellent restaurants, bars, two shopping malls, ATMs, supermarkets and many artisan shops.

Since Municipal law prohibits the construction of apartment buildings and houses greater than two storeys, the area has maintained a tranquil atmosphere reflecting the natural, unspoiled beauty, that has always been the main attraction of Juquehy.
It should be noted that, according to Municipal Health and Sanitation by-laws, pets are not permitted on the beach. Service dogs for physically challenged guests are exempt.
There are also many other beautiful beaches in close proximity to Juquehy. Noteably, Barra do Una, Barra do Sahy, Praia Preta and Praia da Baleia. These nearby communities offer many unique features and characteristics. They are definately worth visiting.
